As a part of Student Exchange Program, the Post-Graduate students of Forensic Science along with post-Graduate students of Forensic Medicine of KMC Manipal accompanied by a Ph.D. research scholar embarked on a one-day visit to various specialized police stations and prison of Mangaluru on 3rd August 2023.The program was Co-ordinator by Ms. Sarik Ankitha, Head of the UG Department of Criminology.

Students first visited Cybercrime, Economic Offences, and Narcotics (CEN) police station situated in Urwa Store. The officials had a thorough discussion with the students regarding prevalent cyber-crimes and the most widely misused narcotics as seen in their day-to-day life. Their session ended with a message on how it was the student's duty to spread forth this awareness to all their near and dear ones. Contact information of the police officials along with national helpline numbers were shared. The second visit of the day was to the Mangaluru district prison which has its roots from the pre-independence era as it had remnants of British Architecture. The session conducted by the Officer in charge of Prisons included a brief overview followed by a briefing on the procedure followed in processing prisoners. This Session was followed by a complete walk around the prison premises and a chance to visit some inmate barracks. A visit to Pandeshwar Police Station encompassed a chance to interact with officials of West Traffic Police Station (Assistant Commissioner of Police in Charge – Traffic) along with the Law and Police Station, Pandeshwar. The session was thoroughly interactive with discussions varying in topics from different traffic regulations, the processing, and investigation of a traffic crime scene along with a demonstration of various devices used in the discharge of their daily duty such as breathalysers and Challan devices. The Officials of the Mangaluru South Police station Pandeshwar (Law and Order) wing explained in detail the procedure followed during different investigations and Law and order conditions. The visit culminated with a tour of the Criminology Museum at The School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya wherein, Mr Joel Joseph explained in detail about the models kept on display spanning the entire discipline of Forensic Science. These visits as conducted for the postgraduate students were extremely instrumental in understanding various aspects regarding the kinds of Police stations present in and around the city as well as in understanding their specialized functions and duties which in turn gives an overview of the future aspects in a professional as well as personal front.
