HRM Forum in Association with NIPM Mangalore Chapter and IQAC organised a special session on “Diversity and inclusion: HR challenges-way forward” on the occasion of World Social Work day, Tuesday 21st March 2023, at 11:30am in the virtual presence of Dr. Sophia N Fernandes, Principal, School of Social Work, Mr. Dheeraj Shetty, Chairman- NIPM, Mr. Bhima Rao, Senior Alumna of the College, Mr. Santosh Pai, secretary–NIPM, Dr. Jenis Mary, Vice- Principal, School of Social Work, Dr, Sebastin K V, HRM Forum Co-ordinator, Assoc, Prof. Cecila F Goveas, IQAC Co- Ordinator, Prof. Evelyn Benis, HOD MSW and Ms. Devika HRM Forum Convenor. A total of 95 participants attended this virtual session. The Resource Person for the session was Mrs. Asha Albuquerque Pai, Alumna, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru.

The Resource Person Mrs.Asha started her address by briefing about this year’s theme of the International Social Work Day- ‘Respecting Diversity through Social Action’. Respecting Diversity through Social action involves actively promoting equality and fairness for individuals from different cultures, backgrounds, identities, gender, and religions.

The Speaker further added that there should be diversity and inclusion in the workplace. In connection with diversity and inclusion the resource person suggested that the organisations should be recruiting a diverse workforce, creating an inclusive workplace, addressing unconscious bias, retaining diverse talent and measuring and monitoring progress by tracking diversity metrics.

The resource person also spoke on inclusive culture, inclusive leadership, characteristics and tips for diversity and inclusion and equity. Finally, there was open discussion and concluded by a vote of thanks rendered by Mr.Rafat.
