Holistic Well Being (Counselling) Forum Events

Department of M.Sc. Counselling, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya Mangalore, hosted International Virtual Workshop on Couple Therapy from 21st to 25th September, 2020. 32 participants from various states of India took part in this workshop.

The five course modules of two hours each were designed to prepare clinical professionals and post graduate students to work with couples in their clinical practices. The modules comprised of Theory and practice of couple therapy, understanding mate selection process, human attachment and adult relationships, contemporary clinical challenges in couple therapy (partner aggression, affairs/infidelity, substance use disorders, sexual problems), structural couple therapy, Bowen Family Systems couple coaching, Gottman couple therapy, Emotionally Focussed therapy, Affective-Reconstructive couple therapy and Functional Analytic couple therapy. The modes of instruction of each day were research-based presentations and clinical case discussions.

The Facilitator of the Workshop was Dr. Sebastian Perumbilly, Ph.D., LMFT tenured Associate Professor in the Marriage and Family Therapy programme at Southern Connecticut State University, USA, and the recipient of the Fulbright Academic and Professional Excellence Award.

As a systemically focused psychotherapist, Dr. Sebastin is a licensed marriage and family therapist, a clinical fellow, and an approved clinical supervisor of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). The workshop was greatly appreciated by the participants and many expressed it as a remarkable learning experience which they would look forward to have one of an advanced level in the future.
