On the occasion of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science, Centre for Extension Services, Tobacco/Substance Control Committee and IQAC, School of Social Work, Mangaluru in collaboration with State Tobacco Control Cell, Bengaluru, had organized a webinar entitled as “Collective Responsibility of Higher Educational Institutions in Prevention of Substance Abuse” held on 26th June, 2021 at 2:00pm via Google meet platform.

The Chief Guest for the webinar was Dr. Kiran Kumar, Joint Director (Medical) cum Member Secretary, State Tobacco Control Cell, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Bengaluru. The Guest of Honours were Dr. M. Selvarajan Deputy Director Medical State Program officer NTCP, Directorate of Health and Family Welfare Services, Bengaluru, Dr. Rajani, Deputy Director, Mental Health Program, Mr. Prabhakara, State Project Manager- Karnataka, International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union), New Delhi since 2013.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Resource Person to speak about the theme was Dr. Thomas Scaria. He shared his knowledge on data about tobacco, risks from smoking, origins of drugs and its derivatives, its use, abuse and addiction. He further spoke on legal and illegal aspects, drugs classification, science of addiction, brain disease, substance use disorder, progression of addiction, drug prevention and examples of community mobilizations. Dr. Juliet.C. J Principal, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya had presided over the webinar and lead everyone to take the pledge to declare the campus as tobacco free campus.
