PSY Forum Events

1. Interclass Competition ‘I IN ME’ on 2nd July 2013. The competition was open to all the students of the College. The participants were to creatively introduce themselves in English/Hindi/ Kannada in 3+ 1 minutes. There were 26 participants.
2. Screened the documentary ‘In the Womb’ on 19th July 2013 in the Psychology laboratory.
3. The Department of Psychology organized Story Writing Competition on 7th August 2013. The competition was open to all the students of the College. Two semi ambiguous black and white pictures were provided and participants were allotted only half an hour to write a creative story for any one picture in Kannada/Hindi/ English. The stories were judged based on creativity, originality and vocabulary. There were 30 participants, 26 wrote stories in English, 6 in Kannada and only 1 in Hindi. The best stories would feature in SIFARA – College Annual Magazine for this academic year.

4. 

   On 10th August 2013, the Psychology Department organized a visit to Chethana Child Development Centre on V.T Road, Mangalore for the final year B.A. students. We were introduced to the school by Dr. U.V Shenoy, a famous Consultant Paediatrician. The Centre offers vocational training, non-formal education and respite care for children and young adults with mental retardation, Down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy and other developmental challenges.
5. On 27th August, 2013, the Department of Psychology deputed five interested final year B.A Psychology students to participate in a workshop on Life skills and Neurolinguistic programming (NLP) by Mrs. Shilpa Somnathan held at St.Agnes Centre for P.G Studies & Research organised by the Department of Psychology.
6. On 5th December 2013, the Department of Psychology celebrated its forty year of its existence by hosting aone day workshop.

• Ms. Sandra S. Lobo* and Ms. Smitha Shetty V participated in the 31st Annual National Conference of Indian Society of Professional Social Work on the theme “Challenges and Innovations in Professional Social Work” organized by the Department of Psychiatry , KMC, Manipal University from 3rd to 5th January 2013 at Manipal.
  *Presented a poster titled Bio Psycho Social Influences of Body Image and Self Esteem among female adolescents.
• Students of Psychology participated in CATHARSIS 2013, an Intercollegiate Fest organized by Department of Psychology, Alva’s College, Moodbidri on 5th January 2013. The students won the Overall Championship and the following events

1. Mariam Shafeena and Naura Fathima – First place in Advertisement analysis.
2. Shwetha B and Rakshitha Anchan – Second place in Poster making.
3. Shwetha, Rakshitha Anchan, Athira J, Arathi J, Prakash and Swathi Rao – First place in Mime.
