Report on “Career Conversations” by Dr. Sumit Chowdhury

The Department of English, School of Social work, Roshni Nilaya, on Saturday the 9 th of August 2014, organized a Career Guidance session. Dr.Summit Chowdhury, the Author of the Book ‘ Rules of the Game’ delivered a talk on the topic ‘Career Conversations’. He talked about  how the rules of the career you are planning to embark into must be learnt about and how they must then be broken if one had to stand out and build a niche for himself/herself in the World outside.

He spelt the need for students who were serious about Career Management to consciously plan and effectively harness their spare time in the pursuit of achieving long-term post-career goals. He also spoke about how as a fresh graduate in the working world you may have to unlearn all that you have learnt in schools, colleges and have to figure out the working world on your own terms and conditions. He broke myths of work speaking for itself and how in today’s world you have to speak of your work  or else your potentials and talents may remain hidden all your life. He stated that one’s work would fill up a large part of one’s life and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what one believes is great work. And the only way to do great work was to love what one does

Students of SDM,Ujire, St. Aloysius, St. Agnes,  and Alvas college,Moodbidri along with the UG and PG students of Roshni Nilaya actively participated in an Interactive session. Ms. Shobhana, Ms.Rachitha Cabral and Pearl Lobo and Ms.Harriet Vidyasagar helped organize the event at the Maria Paiva Hall in the Campus of Roshni Nilaya. After the session there was a discussion time given to the students, wherein the students could put forward their doubts and questions regarding career choices and decision making. After a very fruiotful discussion round the session ended with a feedback given by some of the students. They mentioned how the session threw light on the priorities they had to keep in mind before choosing a particular Career.
