Department of criminology joined hands with Mangalore city police in Drug awareness drive in Mangaluru schools and Colleges.

As a part of the Drug awareness drive an awareness session was held at St. Agnes degree college, Mangalore on 21st July 2023 in Sacred Heart English Medium School, Kulshekar, Mangaluru. The session was addressed by Mr. Umesh Kumar, Sub inspector of Mangaluru East Police Station,Kadri Mangaluru.

Ms. Kushi Valke, I BA Criminology gave an Awareness talk on Drug abuse.She emphasised the CONSEQUENCES OF DRUG USE, such as Legal, Criminal Record, Career and Employment, Social Status, People with criminal records are subject to discrimination on a large scale by many persons and organisations. A criminal record may have an impact on how you are perceived by others in the community, including coworkers, neighbours, and members of your family and social circle. She also informed students that adolescent substance use is typically associated with mental health issues such depression, developmental delays, apathy, withdrawal, and other psychosocial dysfunctions. Conduct issues, personality disorders, suicidal thoughts, suicide attempts, and actual suicide are among others.

A drug addict loses all sense of control, judgement, and restraint when using the substance.At the end of the session she informed that there are many options that have been successful in treating drug addiction, including counseling and Medication.
