As part of commemorating the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26th, the Department of Criminology, with Mangalore South Police Station Pandeshwar, organized an awareness session on drug abuse for the students of Criminology to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving a world free of drug abuse. The aim was to raise awareness. The Program was organised in Maria Paiva Hall on 1st July 2023.

The session was led by Mr. Manjunath, Inspector who spoke about drug usage and trafficking of the same. He explained how young girls and boys become victims of the drug mafia with or without their knowledge. He also explained the NDPS Acts, the severity of punishments, and how NDPS offenses are non-bailable. He also briefed the students about the different kind of cases under the NDPS Act.

Manohar Prasad, Police sub-inspector law and order and Jyoti Goolappanavar Police sub-inspector law and order were present during the occasion they also highlighted on I'll effects of Drug and suggested ways that would curb the menace of drug usage viz. prevention and education, early intervention and treatment, law enforcement, community involvement and international cooperation. They concluded their speech saying that drug menace cannot be solved overnight and requires a sustained effort from all stakeholders to effectively address the issue.

The Session was interactive in nature, where the students asked their questions and the officials cleared the same. The event was successful in creating awareness about drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

The session helped students to understand the current trends in narcotics cases and the various legal actions for illicit trafficking.
