An extension program on the topic “dealing with mobile over usage” was organised by the department of MSc Counselling, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, in SDM college of Business Management Lalbagh, Mangalore. The session was facilitated by 13, 2nd Year Msc Counselling Students – Haleemath Safwana, Radhika Kamath, Kadeeja Afreen, Delilah Goveas, Precella JB, Akshaya T.S, Bhavya Babu, Meharunnisha, Nafeesath Nilofar, Asiyathul al Fiza, Chelsea Dsouza, Lizele Dsouza, Sidhra Ali Khan of 2nd MSc counselling on 10th November 2023. The group session was taken up for 40 students of 1st year Bachelor or Human Resource Management at SDM college, Lalbagh, Mangalore who actively participated in the same.

The objectives of the session were to educate about negative consequences of excessive usage of mobile phones and to build awareness on strategies to reduce usage of phone.

The group process started off with an ice breaker followed by the introduction of the topic. An activity was introduced to incorporate the skills to reduce mobile use or addiction wherein the participants were taught how to reduce mobile addiction and teaches few skills to reduce usage of phone. To practically understand the concept, the participants were asked to change their phone theme colour in black and white, turn off notifications and set app timer so on. Then the session was summarized and concluded with short feedback by the students. The outcome of the session was that the participants were able understand the topic and apply the techniques for the usage of excessive amount of screen time they usually face problems with.
