The Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science organized a guest lecture for the second year MSc CFS, Questioned Documents and Impression Evidences specialization students on the topic ‘Forgery-Types and Relevant Laws’ held on 5th December 2023 at 2:30pm in the PG Dept. of CFS. Dr. Devaseelan S, Assistant Professor, Department of Forensic Science and Criminology, Institute of Allied Health Science, Srinivas University, Mukka, Surathkal, Mangaluru cum Managing Director, SRL Trinity Vision, Mangaluru was the resource person. He is also an alumnus of the department. The main objective of the session was to introduce the students about different types of forgeries, Laws relating to forgeries, recognize the signs of forgery using the documents and the forensic techniques for its detection.

First and foremost, Dr. Devaseelan divided the students into two groups, where one group was given the task to discuss about the forgery in general terms with relevant examples and the other group in legal terms. Further, the students were asked to list the domains in which forgery occurs such as rubber stamps, paper stamps, currency, handwriting, signatures, digital documents, printed documents and type written documents. He then detailed each domain and also explained the types of forgeries that occurs in each domain. Lastly, he spoke about the difference between a Graphologist and Questioned document expert and the scope of each in the field of Forensic Science.

Students expressed that it was an interactive session which helped them to discussed the recent cases related to the forgery in documents. He also shared his experience handling various cases handled by him that helped to know the role of Forensic Documents Examiner. The session concluded at 4.30pm with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Nashwa Iqbal, a student of Second year MSc CFS, QDIE specialization cum General Secretory, Forensis Forum of the department. Altogether, 10 students were present on this occasion.
