The Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science in collaboration with Forensic Alumni Association, Roshni, Mangaluru (FAARM) had organized a session on ‘Social Institutions and Crime' for the first year students of the department on 22nd December 2022 at 12.00p.m. Mr. Anil Shenoy K , Assistant Professor, Department of Forensic Science, Harsha Institute of Management Studies, Bengaluru was the resource person. He is also an alumnus of the institution in the Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science.

Mr. Anil Shenoy K, briefly explained about the Social Institutions such as Family, Religion, Political, Media, Education, Economic institutions and their role in causation and prevention of crimes. He spoke about the broken home, discrimination in the family, lack of affection in the family, lack of understanding of children, Re-marriage of parents influences a person to commit crime. In the case of religion he stated various reasons for the crimes in the name of God. Media is one of the fastest reaching sources about the incidents that take place in the surroundings. It has both advantages and limitations like two faces of a coin. The media is closely related to the political institutions which is one of the reasons for increasing crimes in the society, he said. He has also expressed that every social institution has interlink with each other both in causation and prevention of crime. It was an interactive session where the students actively participated and cleared their doubts. Students gave good feedback about the session and wished to have some more interactive sessions in future. Altogether, 16 students were present. The session concluded at 1.30 p.m with a vote of thanks.
