As a part of academic curriculum, first year students of Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science had been placed in various police stations of Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate after the completion of their first semester. Total of 25 students were placed in 12 police stations coming under the Jurisdiction of Mangaluru City such as Ullal, Pandeshwar, Kadri, Urwa, Vamanjoor, Kankanady, Barke, Kavoor etc for about 15 days i.e. 19th March to 2nd April 2022 from morning 9 to evening 5pm.

The main objectives were to gain insight into the structure and functions of police station, procedure of maintaining crime control records, to work with police officials to know the practical difficulties faced by them, to learn the work culture of police and investigative techniques.

Students were of the opinion that they gained more practical knowledge along with the theoretical aspects learnt in the classroom. The 15 days stay in the police station has removed the fear of police as social stigma and could work together as people friendly police. The challenges faced by the police during the maintenance of law and order were enormous. Dr. Saritha D’Souza, Head of the Department of Criminology and Forensic Science, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya along with the faculty and Students expressed gratitude to Sri. N.
