The members of Forum for Sustainable Development(FSD) visited Vandse and Varamballi villages on 25th November 2019 in Udupi district. These two Gram Panchayaths have been intensely working towards ‘Solid Liquid Resource Management’ (SLRM) for the past few years. Under the SLRM, the waste is broadly segregated into dry and wet waste. Later, they are further segregated under various categories. The wet waste is converted into compost while dry waste is segregated and sold. The main aim of SLRM is to make a garbage free society and converting the waste into wealth. The members understood the concept of zero waste management.

On 26th November, the members of Forum for Sustainable along with field supervisor paid a short visit to Blue Line Foods (India ) Pvt. Ltd. at Kotepura, Ullal. Here the fish meal, fish oil and fish soluble are produced and exported factory. The quality of the product and the cleanliness of the place were well maintained. The trainees learnt the process of making the above fish products.

The second visit was to the Agricultural and Horticultural Research Station, Kapikad, Ullal. The centre introduces varieties of high yielding Cashew and Pepper Crops. It has contributed cashew varieties like ULLAL 1,2,3,4, Bhaskara, Priyanka and bush and nine varieties of pepper. The 35 acres of land has been utilised for this purpose. The crops are available for sale at nominal cost. The important objectives of this Centre are to identify and develop suitable cashew varieties, to appropriate crop production and protection technology, large-scale multiplication of elite clones of cashew for supply to the farmers. The members learnt about various cashew and pepper crops, its diseases and protection.
