The Webinar began with a prayer led by Ms Jinsa Joseph, Faculty, MSW Department. Dr. Juliet C.J, Principal School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, welcomed Dr. Ordetta Mendoza, the key speaker and also the participants of this virtual meet. Dr. Sandra Lobo, NAAC, Co-ordinator, introduced the resource person, Dr. Ordetta Mendoza, former Head, Dept. of Bioinformatics, Stella Maris College, Chennai and Co-ordinator of Programmes, Xavier Board of Higher Education in India, Bangalore.

Dr. Ordetta shared the vision for Higher Education in India – 2020 with a focus on three main elements:

· Students enrolling in the Higher Education System
· Holistic and Multidisciplinary Education
· Educational Technology and Online Education

She also shed light on the current state of the Learning Crisis, which gave way to the creation of this new structure i.e., it replaced the 10+2 with 4+3+3+2+3.

Furthermore Dr. Ordetta highlighted the salient features of NEP2020:

· Self – reliant India
· Sustainable development goals
· Education as Economy booster
· Internationalisation of Higher Education
· Digitalized pedagogy and classrooms
· A layered Accreditation system

She said that the substantial impetus placed on vocational education or hands-on learning in the new policy will give rise to multiple hybrid jobs. With the rapid progression of information technology, and to be able to offer the students a much broader, multidisciplinary foundation, she expressed the importance of using a holistic and multidisciplinary learning approach which will help the learners adapt and reinvent themselves to the demands of the new hybrid work culture and dynamic socio-cultural changes. She highlighted the National Educational Technology Forum which provides independent evidence-based advice, builds institutional and intellectual capacities, envisions strategic thrust, articulate new directions, and also research.

Equipping teachers with the latest technology and education methodology Dr. Ordetta also said that a semester credit is measured as one lecture (one hour) per week over the course of the semester, a minimum of two hours of tutorials a week, or one practical session per week.

This newly approved plan talks about major transformational reforms in the Indian academic sector which are appreciated by many. Along with appreciation, there is also criticism which focuses on the drawbacks of this new education policy.

Dr. Ordetta concluded the session by emphasizing the challenges faced in accessing online and offline content along with the pros and cons of the new education policy 2020.
