Sociology Economics forum organized an industrial visit to industrial areas in and around Mangalore on 8th December 2022 for the final year BA students of the forum. A total of 28 students were benefited by the industrial visit. The visit was arranged with the help of the Kanara Industrial Association. The students were accompanied on the visit by Dr. Kiran Prasad and Assoc. Prof Cecilia Farida Goveas and Ms. Rajeshwari. The visit began with a briefing about the visit by Mr. Guruprasad, manager of Kanara Industrial Association in the boardroom of Kanara Industrial Association office in Baikampaday industrial area. He spoke about the work carried out by the Kanara Industrial Association and also about the industries which are located in the Baikampady industrial area. Then he told the students about the industries which they are going to visit throughout the day.

The first industry which was visited by the students was Gurucharan India, which is an industrial unit manufacturing machines which produce plastic bags. Students were given a guided tour of the facility by the staff and the manager of the industry addressed the students about its functioning.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The second industry visited by the students was PolyShakthi industries which is a recycling industry which recycles old plastic chairs into new ones. The students were shown around by the owner of the industry and explained its functions.

The third industry visited by the students was Kalbavi Cashews in the baikampady industrial area. The owner of the industry Mr. Adit Kalbavi explained to the students the functioning of the industry and students were given a guided tour of the industry by the manager and shown the complete processing of the cashews where they are on the basis of quality divided into 16 grades.

The fourth and the final industry visited by the students was the Bright Flexi International Pvt Ltd in Padubidri which is a plastic bag manufacturing unit owned by the A K Bansal group. The manager of the plant gave a tour of the facility which manufactures plastic bags for all the major cement manufacturing companies and also plastic bags which are used for packaging of food items. The company also exports plastic bags to European countries. The manager showed the upcoming facility of the industry which will be of international standards manufacturing plastic bags for the international market.

The visit was a new and informative experience for the students which gave them a practical understanding of how MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise) practically function.
