An extension programme was conducted on the topic “Stress Management”, organized by Department of MSc Counselling at Athena Institute of Health Sciences, Falnir Rd, Bendoor, Mangaluru. The session was facilitated by 22 students from 2nd MSc Counselling on 23rd January, 2024, from 9:00 to 1:00pm. The 138 students of Athena Nursing College actively participated in the session.

The objectives of the session were to assess the level of stress in the nursing students, to understand stress and factors that cause stress, to help members identify their strengths and resources and help them know how they knowingly contribute to the stress, to train and practice coping skills to manage stress.

The facilitators began the session with an ice breaker and then conducted an assessment to assess the level of stress in the students. Through role play, group discussion, written and movement exercises the facilitators made the students understand and educated them about the types and factors of stress and also helped them to identify their strengths and resources and know how they knowingly contribute to stress.

The facilitators trained the students with different emotion focused and problem focused techniques to cope with stress and practiced all the techniques through exercises. The outcome of this session was the students were able to gain knowledge and understanding about the causes and factors of stress and were able to identify their strengths and resources to cope with stress. They were able to learn the techniques and also found the session very helpful.
