An extension programme on the topic “Health and Nutrition” was initiated by Field Community Workers of Dharma Jyothi, Vamanjoor in Navachethana English Medium Hr. Pry School, Neermarga, Mangalore. The session was facilitated by Ms. Lizele Dsouza and Ms. Chelsea Dsouza, 2nd year MSc Counselling Students of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangalore as the resource persons on 24th November 2023 from 9:15 to 9:45 am. The session was taken up for 42 students of 4th standard at Navachethana English Medium Hr. Pry School.

The objectives of the session were to educate about the meaning and importance of Health and Nutrition and provide awareness about the ways of improving and maintaining one's Health and practising healthy food habits and having a balanced diet.

The session began with one of the facilitators conducting an energizer and then the participants were educated about the meaning, types, importance, components and ways of improving health. The session was then continued by the other facilitator and the participants were educated on the topic Nutrition about the meaning, need and components of food, functions of nutrients, having a balanced diet and benefits of eating healthy food. The session was ended by showing a video related to the topic, summarising the session and by asking participants feedback.

The outcome of the session was that participants were able to actively participate and understand the meaning and importance of Health and Nutrition and they were also able to gain awareness about the different ways of improving and maintaining one’s Health and practising healthy food habits and having a balanced diet.
