The Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science had organized a session on “Questioned Documents and Digital Forensics” for the students of MSc CFS on 20th September 2023, at 2;00pm in the PG Department of CFS. Mr. Akash Machado, Digital Forensic Analyst, Mahajan and Aibara Chartered Accountants LLP,. He had worked as a Scientist, Questioned Documents, Digital and Cyber Department, Helik Advisory Limited, Mumbai. He is also an Alumnus of the institution (2016-2018 batch). The objective of the session was to provide insight into the nature of work of the Scientific Analyst and to discuss about the opportunities in the field of Questioned Documents and Digital Forensics.

Dr. Saritha D’Souza, Head, Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science, briefed about the purpose of organizing the session. Ms. Aishwarya Sathya of Second MSc CFS welcomed and delivered an amazing work track of Mr. Akash in the field. Further, Mr. Akash began the session with the ink analysis and the reason of its ban all over the world. He spoke about the prioritized crime in questioned document such as signature forgery, handwriting forgery, its detection with the help of Miscope and preservation of evidences. Thereafter he briefed about the polygraph, procedure, precautionary measures and interpretation, advantages and limitations. He spoke about the importance of digital forensic in the field of forensic Science, the global growth of advanced technologies and the rapid increase of cyber-crimes. The digital forensic usage in metadata, forensic forgery and file analysis etc. was explained to the students.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Students had an informative, interactive session, and received a feedback that the session gave them better career guidance and the queries were answered. The session concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Aishwarya Sathya, President of Forensis Forum at 4pm. Ms. Vedhaashini S Gowda, first year MSc CFS compiled the report. Altogether, 31 students and four faculties were part of the event.
