As a part of academic practical curriculum, the second year students of Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science, Forensic Psychology and Criminal Justice Specialization had visited ‘Family Service Agency (FSA), School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru on Friday, 12th May 2023 at 2pm. Mr. Roshan D’Souza, Assistant professor, MSc Criminology and Forensic Science (CFS) of the college accompanied the students.

Ms. Colin D’Souza, Director, Family Service Agency accorded permission to interact with the faculties of Family Counselling Centre. The main objective of the visit is to learn the functioning of the FSA, various services provided to the Society, and types of cases related to women and child issues. Ms. Niomi, Co-ordinator, FSA spoke about the services and projects taken by the FSA which contributes to the holistic development of women and children. She has also explained about the fake information provided by the people in order to get benefits for them and their families, procedures followed for the background verification and field work practicum.

Further, Ms. Shwethal K. Counsellor explained about the functions of the Family Counselling Centre and the process of counselling women and children. She spoke about the cases taken up by the agencies pertaining to domestic violence, child related cases, family disputes. Students got an opportunity to learn about the working conditions, cases handled by the agencies, awareness programmes conducted in the community and rehabilitative measures provided by them. The interaction of students concluded at 3.30pm with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Likhitha V.K. of second year MSc CFS. Altogether, 7 students and one faculty interacted with 3 staff members of the Family Service Agency.
