The Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science had organized a session for the second year MSc CFS Questioned Documents and Impression Evidences students on the topic ‘Biometrics Fusion: Working Mechanism and Applications' held on 20th March 2023 at 1:30pm in the department. The resource person was Mr. Devaseelan S., Assistant Professor, Department of Forensic Science and Criminology, Srinivas University, Mukka, Surathkal, Mangaluru cum Managing Director, SRL Trinity Vision, Mangaluru and also an alumnus of the department.

Mr. Devaseelan spoke about evolution of biometrics and stated that it is the biological organ or element used for identification or to give access to protect the integrity, provide availability and maintain confidentiality. He then explained various biometric keys such as fingerprint, retina, palmar surface, footprint, facial recognition, ear print, lip print, dentition, gait pattern among others along with their characteristics in detail. He then explained that data is stored in biometrics in 3 ways i.e. manual, semi-automatic and automatic. The data is stored once the biological information is converted to electronic information. Further, he detailed that the process of extraction can be done through temporary storage, server based information and the cloud. Lastly he explained the concept of biometric fusion along with the importance of biometrics for security purposes and its application in various fields.

The students were divided into 3 groups to make the session more interactive and their doubts regarding the topic were clarified. Students expressed that it was an effective and informative session. Altogether, 14 students were present for the session which concluded at 3:30pm with a vote of thanks.
