The Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru in collaboration with the Department of Forensic Science, Institute of Allied Health Sciences, Srinivas University, Mukka, Surathkal, Mangaluru, has organized a National Conference on “Forensics ‘of QD: Challenges and Counter” on 18th March 2023 at LT-1, SIMS & RC, Mukka, Mangaluru.

The Guest of Honour Sri. B.T. Obaleshappa, Superintendent, District Prison, Mangaluru addressed the gathering about the significance role of Forensic Science experts in submitting the Scientific evidence to court in order to convict the perpetrators in time. This would help to deter crimes and create awareness among the people. He also spoke about the effective reformatory and rehabilitation programmes to be held in the correctional Institutions.

Prof. Vineetha Rai, Professor and Head, Department of BSW and Registrar (Evaluation), School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya,Mangaluru congratulated both the departments for organizing the national event. She addressed the participants to acquire an in-depth knowledge on the subject and share it with others.

Dr Jayashree Bolar, Assistant Registrar, Srinivas University in her presidential address mentioned that Srinivas University always encourages researches in various fields. She stressed on how students of Forensic Science must utilize opportunities and apply the subject knowledge for the welfare of the society.

Dr Udaya Kumar Rao, Dean, SIMS and RC, Dean’s of Institute of Allied Health Sciences Dr Beena HB and Prof Pavana Krishnamoorthy, Dr Saritha D’Souza, Head, Post graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science, School of Social Work, Mangaluru, Dr Vrinda J Bhat, Head, Department of Forensic Medicine, Srinivas University, Mrs Swathi D, Asst. Professor and Course Coordinator, Department of Forensic Science inaugurated the program by lighting the lamp. Thereafter, Prof. Vineetha Rai and Dr Jayashree Bolar released the E-Souvenir of the program and exchanged the Memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two Institution. It is to conduct various academic activity such as student and faculty exchange programmes, research, extension activities, seminars, co-curricular activities, exposure visits, exchange of resources etc., Further, Sri. B.T. Obaleshappa and Prof. Vineetha Rai were felicitated for their contribution in the respective field.

There were several eminent resource persons addressing the gathering in their specialized areas. Mr. Chirag Suvarna, Cyber Security Analysist, Cyber Sapines, Mangaluru spoke on digital evidence pertaining to questioned documents. Mr. Arun Kumar K, Assistant Professor, Garden City University, Bengaluru and Independent Consultant, Court certified QD Expert, spoke on E-Signs: Analysis, authentication and admissibility in court. Ms. Fernandes Glorita S, Teaching and Research Assistant, School of Forensic Sciences, National Forensic Science University Goa, spoke on Application of Chemical Techniques in QD examination. Adv. Udayananda A., District Government Pleader, Special Public Prosecutor, Department of Customs & amp; Revenue Intelligence, GST Government of India, Mangaluru delivered session on Legal Perception of Documents in Questions. Dr. Saritha D’Souza, Head, Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science, School of Social Work, Mangaluru handled the session on the theme Future Trends in Document Examination. The last session was Paper presentation competition held for delegates on various fields of Questioned Documents. The Best Paper Presentation award bagged by Ms. Amritha G Shetty, Assistant Professor, Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science, School of Social Work, Mangaluru and the second place was won by Mr. Joel Joseph, Assistant Professor, Department of Criminology of the same college. Ms. Fernandes Glorita S, Teaching and Research Assistant, School of Forensic Sciences, National Forensic Science University Goa and Adv. Udayananda A., District Government Pleader, Special Public Prosecutor, Department of Customs & amp; Revenue Intelligence, GST Government of India, Mangaluru were the judges.

The valedictory program was held at 4pm. Adv. Udayananda A., Dr. Anup A Kudtarkar, External Chief Advisor, Phoenix Screening Services, Bengaluru, Dr. Saritha D’Souza, Mrs. Swathi D., Assistant Professor and Course Coordinator, Department of Forensic Science and Criminology, Srinivas University, Mukka, Mr. Niketh P. S. Assistant Professor, Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science, School of Social Work, Mangaluru, Mr. Preeyush, Assistant Professor and member organizing team of the conference, Department of Forensic Science and Criminology, Srinivas University, Mukka were on the dais. Dr. Vrinda J Bhat, Head, Department of Forensic Medicine, Department of Forensic Science and Criminology, Srinivas University, Mukka welcomed the gathering and Mrs. Swathi D. delivered the vote of thanks. Students of the Department of Forensic Science and Criminology of the hosting college compared the whole event. Altogether, around 160 students and 25 faculties were present for the conference.
