A session on ‘Delinquency and Criminal Justice System in India’ and Forensic Science Exhibition


The Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science (CFS), in collaboration with Undergraduate Department of Social Work, School of Social Work, Kankanady, Mangaluru had organized a session on ‘Delinquency and Criminal Justice System in India’, followed by Forensic Science Exhibition held on 19th September 2022 at 1.15pm for the third year BSW students of the college in the MSc CFS Dept.

Dr. Saritha D'Souza, Head of the Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science delivered a session on the theme covering the aspects of Crime, types of crimes, Criminology, measures to prevent crimes and the rehabilitation techniques. She further explained about the Juvenile Justice Act, and recent amendments, institutions coming under the act such as observation home, children home, special homes, composition of Child Welfare Committee and Juvenile Justice Board. Causes of crimes, its impact on the society, various criminal laws of India and importance of each law has been discussed briefly. There was an interaction with regard to the procedure of Criminal investigation, steps followed by the police during the investigation focussing on the crime scene, interrogation and functions of Forensic Science Laboratory.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In this context, a practical exposure was provided for the students by creating a simulated crime scene followed by Forensic Science exhibitions providing insight into the importance of various scientific evidences, handling, preservation and forensic analysis for the detection of crime. The second year students of Criminology and Forensic Science guided by Assistant Professors of the department Mr. Roshan D’Souza, Ms. Bindiya T and Mr. Joel Joseph had taken the initiative to explain about the functions of various divisions of Forensic Science Laboratory with a demonstration. Ms. Shoba D’Souza, Assistant Professor, Undergraduate Department of Social Work of the college was present during the session. Altogether, 66 students and 5 faculties of the respective departments were part of this program. The event concluded at 3pm with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Chandini K. third year BSW student of the college.
