“The village is the cell of the national body and the cell life must be healthy and developed for the national body to be healthy and developed.” – Sri Aurobindo

Rural Development entails improving the social, economic, political, and spiritual well-being of people living in rural areas who lack access to basic services. Rural development is considered to be one of the important subjects of national interest as the large majority of Indian population lives in rural India. Rural Development is offered as one of the major subjects in the BA degree undergraduate programme (3 major subjects as a combination) at School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru. This subject's courses provide a solid theoretical foundation, including various concepts, history, approaches, theories, and programmes, as well as practical exposure to the skills and attitudes needed to work in rural environments. Students of Rural Development become more sensitive to the needs and problems of rural areas, and they gain the expertise, skills, and attitudes necessary to promote rural empowerment and sustainable development.
