A Career Counselling session was organised by IQAC, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya for the students of Final year BA and BSW of on Tuesday 13, February, 2024. Ms. Chinnu Skariah, Cultural Secretary welcomed the gathering. The resource persons for the day were Dr Guru Tej, founder of Wisdom Education, Dr Francisca Tej, Co-founder of Wisdom Education, Mangaluru and Mr Deepak Boloor, Global HR of DX Factor, with Mrs. Cecilia F. Goveas, the IQAC Coordinator, also in attendance.

During the morning session's first half, from 10:15 am to 11:15 am, Dr. Guru Tej and Dr. Francisca Tej, engaged the students. Dr. Guru Tej, as the keynote speaker, discussed career planning with an emphasis on seizing opportunities. He conducted interactive psychometric tests to help students understand their personalities and strengths better. These engaging activities, including puzzles, crosswords, and aptitude questions, offered insights into the students' thought processes and were both educational and enjoyable. Dr. Guru Tej shared anecdotes from his professional experience to illustrate the importance of seizing opportunities and addressed common career concerns, advising students to pursue what they excel in and are passionate about. He also provided guidance on navigating through the challenges of their twenties and beyond, emphasizing the importance of passion, self-awareness, and understanding oneself. The resource persons also offered assistance with resume building, adding practical value to the session, which left students with a clearer understanding of themselves and their career paths.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


Transitioning from Campus to Corporate Life

Following the morning session, Mr. Deepak Boloor addressed final-year BA students from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm on "Transitioning from Campus to Corporate Life." Many students face uncertainties regarding job prospects or further studies post-graduation, lacking exposure to corporate environments. Mr. Boloor guided students through the corporate world's dynamics, emphasizing the importance of informed decision-making regarding education and career choices, understanding personal strengths and weaknesses, and overcoming career obstacles. He stressed the significance of a well-crafted resume, encouraged students to pursue internships, research, and certification courses to enhance skills and increase employability. Effective communication and technical skills were highlighted as crucial assets in the corporate realm. To demonstrate corporate-style group discussions, Mr. Boloor organized a simulation, engaging students in a constructive exercise that provided practical insight into professional discourse. The session proved highly informative, equipping students with valuable insights for their future careers.

Another informative session was held for undergraduate students at SSW Roshni Nilaya, aiming to offer guidance on pursuing a Master of Science in Counselling (MSc. Counselling).

The session was led by Ms. Tahaani, an Assistant Professor in the MSc. Counselling Department. She gave an overview of the program, detailing the skills and knowledge students would gain, including conducting counselling sessions and psychotherapy utilizing approaches like Gestalt therapy, Cognitive therapy, and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT).

Starting from 2007, the program mandates internships in various settings such as schools, colleges, and palliative care facilities during the second semester. In subsequent semesters, students continue their internships in different educational institutions while also volunteering at wellness centres.

Ms. Tahaani assured students of the program's certification and then opened the floor for questions, during which she patiently addressed inquiries, demonstrating her expertise and facilitating a thorough understanding of the course. A total of 85 Students participated in this session.
