Psy Forum and IQAC jointly organized an initiation and exploration of career planning for the Final Year BA students of Psychology on 14th February 2024 from 9:45 am to 10:40 am in Room No. 6. The resource person was Mrs. Clarin Simon Brown, a Counselling Psychologist with an experience of 10 years in school counselling.
Dr. Sandra Sunitha Lobo, Head of the Department of Psychology introduced and welcomed the resource person. Mrs. Clarin Simon Brown, an alumna of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya (BA: 2007-2010 & Masters in Counselling: 2010-2012) worked at Delhi Public School, Bengaluru for 6 years as a school counsellor and 2 years at the National Public School.

Mrs Clarin spoke from her heart, she took us to her past of one painful loss event and how she became resilient eventually and decided to give to Society for what it gave her through mentors and mental health professionals. She took the listeners along into her college days and stressed the journey of an average student who forayed into the field of counselling in educational institutions outside Mangaluru. She mentioned that to get into any career, one needs to have deep passion, perseverance, and confidence in oneself. She reminded all that nothing goes a waste, their assignments and projects go a long way towards equipping them with personal competencies in a professional sphere. She mentioned that keeping in touch with teachers and friends helps to build social networks which is beneficial.

Mrs. Clarin Simon Brown spoke about her experience working with children with Learning Disabilities. She mentioned the diverse field of online counselling where she presently works at Carpediem EdPsych Consultancy LLP based in Bengaluru where she counsels children from India as well as from across the globe.

She even mentioned the good education system in India and indicated that one could study in one’s hometown and later apply for a job abroad if required. She mentioned that countries like Australia are looking for professionals in the health field particularly counsellors, psychologists etc.

Forty-seven students accompanied by the faculty Dr. Sandra Sunitha Lobo and Asst. Prof. Roshini Monica Goveas was rapt in attention as all journeyed along with the speaker. Ms. Ifra Ayesha delivered the vote of thanks.
