Arivu-Neravu’, a one-day outreach programme for children from various orphanages and child care homes in the city was conducted by Mangalore City Police in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, and K.S. Hegde Medical Academy on Sunday, 28th March 2021 from 8 am to 5 pm at TMA Pai Hall, Mangaluru. Thirty Nine students of the college participated in the programme. The programme catered to nearly 500 children in Mangaluru.

The brief inaugural programme had the dignitaries- Shri N. Shashi Kumar IPS, Commissioner of Police, Shri Hariram Shankar DCP (law & order), Shri Ranjit Kumar Banaru IPS, Ranjith, ACP, South subdivision, Dr. Mahabalesh Shetty, Head, Department of forensic medicine and toxicology, KSHEMA, Shri Renni D'Souza, President of Child Welfare Committee & Director of Childline Collab Agency, D.K, Shri Kumar Shettigar, Protection officer (Institutional) and Shri Deekshith, Centre coordinator Childline Collab Agency besides Ms. Sarik Ankita, Head, Department of Criminology, School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The programme included a stage play performed by students of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya to make the participants aware of the issues that could exist in various scenarios-homes, schools, child care homes, and it was based on the theme of child abuse and all its forms. Dr. Sheryl Suares from Goa Medical College was the resource person. AAKAASH (adolescents’ and kids abuse and sexual health) screening tool designed in the department of forensic medicine, K.S. Hegde Medical Academy was explained and the participants filled the form. Based on the responses, children were screened and counseled by ten counselors from School of Social Work. Cases of various forms of child abuse were identified, recorded and a plan of action was chalked out for certain ear marked cases. The children witnessed a cultural programme of various forms of dance - performing Lavani, Kathak, Bharatanatyam and contemporary performed by the students of School of Social Work and the Kannada film ‘Avane Srimannarayana’ was screened too.

The contribution of doctors from Justice K.S Hegde Hospital, ten counselors and student volunteers from School of Social Work was greatly appreciated by the Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru.
