The department of Rural Development and Internal Quality Assurance Cell of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru in collaboration with Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST), Indian Institute of Science Campus, Bengaluru organised a two days National Web Workshop on “Interface of Intellectual Property Rights and Innovation in Social Sciences” on 5th and 6th June, 2020.

The workshop received more than 400 registrations across the country from students, faculty, research scholars of social sciences and public in general. The workshop convener, Ms Anuradha Shetty welcomed the co-organisors, resource persons and the participants. Dr. Juliet CJ, Principal of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, delivered presidential remarks while Dr Jenis Mary P, Vice Principal of the Institute gave opening remarks on the relevance of IPR on Humanities and Social Sciences. An introduction to IPR and initiatives of KSCST was given by Mr. Hemanth Kumar, Executive Secretary of KSCST. Following are the technical sessions dealt by the resources persons in two days;

As part of the assessment on the workshop, following debate topics were given to be submitted online and presented on the second day after the technical sessions;
-Patent for medicines –boon or bane
-Patient right v/s patent rights : critically analyse
-Affordability, accessibility, availability – pros and cons
-Copy rights for authors and access of information
-Geographical Indicators (GIs) for socio-economic development: means and methods

E-forms of quiz and feedback were circulated. The best paper presenters were awarded and e-certificates were sent to all the participants.
