Two students from 2nd year M.Sc counselling in collaboration with Family Counseling Centre, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, organized a group process session on the topic Building Self-esteem and then connecting it to leadership for women between the age group of 40 to 70 who are members of Self help Groups.

The session was organized on 13/01/2022 for the duration of 1 hour from 4pm to 5pm in Janatha Kendra, Mangalore. Total number of members was 30. The group session was conducted by four group leaders. Since the members were hesitating to take the responsibilities of their Self Help Group for money transaction and other activities, session was aimed to build self-esteem among them and through that helping them to prepare for leadership.

Session was conducted through ice breaker activity and storytelling related to leadership. Further exercises were conducted which were focused on guessing who is the leader and working with one another’s cooperation. Input was given by the group leaders throughout the exercise and processing question related to the activities as well as by asking their strengths from real life experiences. Group members actively participated in the session and showed interest getting information regarding the topic. Members could reflect on their strengths which they used to overcome their tough time in life. Session was concluded by saying that each individual have the strength and capacity to become a leader and take responsibility if given a chance. Members were able to identify their strengths and prepare for taking responsibility. With the cooperation among the leaders and active participation of session was successful.
