The Students of Social Work Roshni Nilaya of BSW Department organised a session on the use of tobacco and its harmful effect on health, for the class VII VIII and IX of Kerala Samajam English Medium High School Pandeswar on 13 December 2019. The target group was 85 Students and five teachers. The Session was conducted by II BSW student Ms. Anima Ming who had attended the workshop related to the same topic.

She delivered the session through a power presentation. It was an interactive session with the students. The students were aware of what is tobacco because many family members of students were victims of tobacco use. The students were aware that those who use tobacco were suffering from different diseases but they did not know that those who were not using  could also be affected adversely. After the session they realized that even they are also at risk as much as the tobacco users or smokers. The students also realised that tobacco contains  harmful chemicals. They took a pledge that they would say NO to tobacco in any form- smoking or chewing. They also said that they would tell their parents who were victims to stop and on the way or in public places if they saw anyone they would tell them that it was injurious to health.

The students were very active . They participated well. At the end of the session a few students explained what they understood. The teachers and the Headmistress appreciated the initiative taken by the students to conduct the awareness programme on the relevant and most needed issue.
