Mangalore University Konkani Adhyayana Peeta in collaboration with School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya Mangaluru organized a special talk on 'Linguistic Harmony' (Bhasha Samarasya) by Rev. Fr. Alwyn Serrao and 'Effect of Social Media on Language Standards' by Mr. H.M. Pernal on Tuesday 29th of March, 2022 at the Maria Paiva Hall, School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru. The program began with a prayer song by the students of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya. The welcome address was given by Ms. Deepthi Moras, a student of SSW Roshni Nilaya. After which, Rev. Fr. Alwyn Serrao spoke on the topic 'Linguistic Harmony'. He began by explain the meaning and essence of Language. He gave some insights on the surveys done on the number of languages spoken worldwide. He threw a light on how India is a multilingual country. He also explained what leads to disharmony due to multilingualism. He concluded by mentioning some of the strategies to bring about multilingual harmony around us. This was followed by the second talk of the day on the topic 'Effect of Social Media on Language Standards' by Mr. H.M. Pernal. He spoke about the power of Social media apps like Twitter and Facebook over news papers and news channels these days. He highlighted the fact that there are very few people who create content in Konkani Language on Social media apps. After the second talk, the room was open for discussion. The audience posed questions and opinions to the resource persons based on their talks and it was an enriching experience. The dignitaries of the day were Rev. Fr. Alwyn Serrao, Mr. H.M. Pernal, Ms. Evelyn Benis - Secretary of School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya and Dr. Jayavantha Nayak - Coordinator at Konkani Adhyayana Peeta, Mangalore University. Asst.Prof.Ms.Vandana Dsouza compered the program. Mr.Vernon Chris Pinto, a student at SSW Roshni Nilaya delivered the vote of thanks.
