An Awareness Session on “DRUG ABUSE” was organised by the UG Department of Criminology in collaboration with  "NARCOTICS ANONYMOUS" on 7th  SEPTEMBER 2019 at the College Auditorium. NA is  a non -profit organisation that helps individuals to come out of addiction and works for the betterment of the Society.

The session began with invoking God's  blessing through a prayer song by the students of I year B.A and a small introduction of the speakers was given by Varsha Bhatt of I year B.A. Ms.Sarik Ankitha, Head of the Department  of Criminology florally welcomed the Speakers who had come from different parts of India.

Mr. Benjamin briefed the students about Narcotics Anonymous and its establishment in various countries and how it helps the  addicts to live a drug free life. He  also enlightened the students about the  ill effects  of the oldest drug known to mankind, ‘alcohol’.

The session continued with another efficient speaker,  Mr. Diago, who spoke about Narcotics Anonymous and their practices solely  focusing on spirituality and not any religious practices and also explained their slogan “The first drug does the damage”.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mr.Gopal took over and spoke about his experiences of being an addict and how through the sufferings and realisations he became a part of Narcotics Anonymous and is now contributing to the wellness of today's youth and society. He quoted that ‘addiction is a disease and love is the only solution’. He further spoke about the consequences of using drugs and that it is a temporary solace in life, sparking a sense of awarness among all the students. He then informed about the system of ‘mentorship’ followed in Narcotics Anonymous; where the social workers guide the newcomers through a 12 step De-Addiction Programme. He concluded by enlightening the students  about the hotline number which is available for people in need.
Mr.Ramesh addressed  the audience about his harsh experiences of being an addict and thereby motivated the students to stay in the right path.

This wonderful awarness programme ended with an interactive question answer  session in which the students asked their queries to the members of the group.

Zainab Mukthar of I year B.A thanked the members of the group for taking their valuable time from their busy schedule and conducting this informative programme which was truly beneficial to all the students.
