On the occasion of 75th Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, Mangaluru District Prison organised a program for inmates of the prison on 12th August 2022. The students of Department of Criminology, School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru performed play and cultural program

The program was presided by Sri. BT Obleshappa Superintendent of district prison Mangalore.

The program was compeered by Sri. Subramanya, teacher of the prison. The program began by invoking God's blessings by M S Shravya of III BA.

Followed by a skit "Manaparivathane Nimminda" performed by Vernon and group of II BA, talked about crime and its impact on the prisoners' families. The play depicted how one should learn from their mistakes and move forward and work hard in a righteous path to achieve success. It also gives a message about how a person shouldn't think how they would get judged by the society for their mistakes, instead think about progressing in life. It also gave a message how inmates transformed themselves after their release from prison

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Following the skit, cultural programs were performed by the students. Ms. Nikitha of II BA performed the Yakshagana art form which indeed left the audience in awe. Ms. Minola and Ms. Sahana of II BA sang patriotic songs.

Ms. Sarik Ankitha, Head, Department of Criminology addressed the inmates and spoke that there is no point in worrying about the past, instead admitting mistakes and correcting mistakes is a good human trait.

Will this society accept me? Does this society see me as evil? We should get out of such thoughts and lead a normal life. We get opportunities in life to make ourselves right. We should use those opportunities properly and follow the right path. No matter what difficulty comes, no matter what situation comes, we can overcome it and move forward.

Mr. BT Obleshappa, the Superintendent, appreciated the students' talent. The program was concluded by felicitating the students with plant saplings which were grown by the inmates.

Inspector Mr. Rajendra Korpade, Sri.Sidramappa and Smt. Chennamma Bhidari the Jailors of the Prison and Mr. Denis Dsouza, Psychologist were present during the occasion.
