The Department of Criminology organised a training session on the awareness of cyber crime on 13th June 2022 at 9.45 a.m. in the college Auditorium.

The organisation that addressed the students was Inchara Foundation and the speaker of this session was Mr.Yogesh Malligemadu.

At first he explained what kind of work the foundation does and the organisation is currently located in Kadri Shivabagh, Mangaluru. The foundation works with communities, schools, educational institutions, teachers for disseminating awareness regarding safety of children.

They also work with children who are in need of care and protection and the children who have been abused, especially girls aged below eighteen years.

The speaker then emphasised the prevalence and spike in mobile addiction from which he directed us to the important topic of Cyber safety. As children are exposed to technology, social media and the internet and they are highly vulnerable to being victims of cybercrime. The different kinds of cyber crime were discussed to spread awareness on the matter.

Cyber bullying, Child pornography, Identity theft, plagiarism, dating sites, honey trap and child grooming was the different types which were explained.

 

 

 

 

In the end the speaker gave the training for students to be the trainers to spread the word of the session individually to at least 20 children each by showing them the five videos and the following five questions to spread awareness about cyber safety.

The details of the website along with the procedure to answer the questions and to download the certificate were also explained. The students were asked to do the best to be a trainer and educate the children regarding cyber crime.

A total of 157 students participated in the training program.
