HOW TO BECOME SUCCESSFUL HR PROFESSIONALS? A session by Dr. Sudhir Raj K, Professor and Corporate Trainer - Justice KS Hedge on 12th July 2017.

TASK ORIENTED LEARNING SESSION by Mrs. Preetham Kamath, a Soft Skills Trainer on 11th July, 2017 Ms. Kamath conducted various team building games from which we learnt about HR skills, the importance of working in teams, how communication both verbal and non verbal can be used effectively, the ability to look at situations from different angles, to make the best out of limited resources and so on. It was a very educative session with truly a fun agenuine

A session by MR. DHEERAJ SHETTY, HR HEAD AT SUPRAJEETH ENGINEERING who is an experienced person, with over 20 years in the field of Human Resource Management. He discussed about the corporate generations which lie in the company background and gave us a few general instructions for facing an interview. The HR Students had a group discussion and Mr. Dheeraj explained the Do's and Don'ts of the same. The major learnings include facing an interview and GD, understanding the corporate sector and the competition that exists. We also got an insight into being creative & genuine.

The HR students had a Wonderful opportunity to visit INFOSYS MUDIPU CAMPUS and had an interaction with Mr.Ramaprasad, Human resource development employee relations team member. Students were briefed about the history of infosys and the HR practices namely CSR, employee engagement activities, employee benefits, incident management, women welfare etc along with a few tips to prepare for interviews. The exciting part was the campus visit in that beautiful 400 acres of land.

A WORKSHOP ON TALENT MANAGEMENT AND HR ANALYTICS by Mr. Rajinikanth, Head of the learning and development section, MCFL and Mrs.Damayanthi. The session covered the topic such as Talent management, it challenges, trends and the basic practices .He discussed the evolution of Human Resource management and the application of HR Analytics in practice. It was a very interactive session with practical examples given.

An interactive session was held for the HR students along with the HR department staff of BHARAT ELECTRONICS LIMITED (BEL) on 8th of August, 2017. Mr. KM Shivakumaran- General Manager, HR, Mr Kabilan, Senior Deputy Manager, HR, Ms. Chitra John, Deputy Manager HR and Mr. Devendu, Deputy Manager, HR spent their valuable time elaborating the details about the company and how it has been dealing with its customers in a satisfactory manner. In the course of the interaction the students raised several questions and gained knowledge of the various aspects of HR department in BEL and also inputs on how a student should focus on the growth to be capable and ready to enter the professional life.

So proud of our HR students- Chandrashekar, Girish, Joel , Nayana and Colin who voluntarily took initiative to conduct a LIFESKILLS full day session on a Sunday! for St Aloysius degree students and did a splendid job. They covered communication skills ( verbal and non verbal) as well as employability skills - Interviewing, group discussion and so on with well prepared PPT's. The St. Aloysius students were very impressed with the dedication and commitment of these students and I think in some way they will be role models for them. Youth reaching out to youth has a deeper impact and they are all geared up with confidence to take their next assignment.

The HR second year students made a visit to DATHUR PANTHTENGADI NATIONAL BOARD FOR WORKERS EDUCATION AT PADIL, Mangalore. Mr.M S Matapathi, Regional Director of Mangalore centre addressed the students and briefed on the various activities undertaken. The session gave us insight on the various aspects of workers education namely building responsibility behavioural modification, environmental hygiene, work safety, labour laws etc. The department strives for education, motivation and upliftment of the employees or workers both in organized and unorganized sector.

An interactive and informative session for HR students by Mr. Santosh Rao, Head HR, Toyota kirloskar engine limited Bangalore, who is also a alumni of Roshni Nilaya. The session was named as 'EXPERIENCE SHARING FOR MUTUAL LEARNING' and dealt with several points namely 'Know each other', Tips to become successful HR professional, Ideas on setting new HR department, Changing IR Trends etc. Mr Santosh Rao mainly highlighted on the reasons for rejection in an interview rather than giving information about selection. Four case studies were also discussed.

A session was organized by the HR students on IMPACT OF GOODS & SERVICES TAX (GST) in India as part of the Thematic presentation. The students highlighted on what is GST , the types, the criteria of implementation, its advantages & disadvantages and the major challenges faced. A short Video interviewing Mr.Madhav Nayak, an automobiles businessman, Mr.Alfred Pais,a media person and Ms. Sushmitha Suresh a professional human rights educator & law student was taken by the students as innovative way of reaching out to people.

The PM&IR students Visited KIOCL (Kudremukha Iron Ore Company Limited) as part of field exposure on 14th of Oct,2017. The session was conducted by the HR manager Mr. S. Murugesh and Mr. Jayram, Instructor. Along with a short film of the production sites of KIOCL, Mr. Murugesh explained in detail about the HR functions, Labour law implications and some case studies regarding disputes in KIOCL. He briefed about many situations where his abilities were tested and how one should handle them.

Nayana S Pillai, Second year PM&IR student conducted TRAINING TO THE EMPLOYEES OF BRAND FACTORY on importance of communication skill in retail sector

A seminar on COMPLIANCE OF COMPANIES ACT,2013 was conducted by Mr. Prasanna Shenoy, Chartered Accountant. He introduced us different types of enitites, documents required for incorporation, different types of audit and its work in the company, the different type of issues taken care by the auditor in his workplace, the procedure of companies audit and its function. The PM&IR students could link audit with Human Resources, what are the things as an HR we should know to help the auditor.

Girish Uppin and Manoj H.R. PM & IR students have organized and participated in EMPLOYEE'S HEALTH CAMP AT UNITED BREWERIES in collaboration with Ria Diagnostics hospital on 10th November, 2017.

An INDUSTRIAL EXPOSURE TO ABB India limited, the oldest and biggest manufacturing plant in Bangaluru, on 28th November 2017. Mrs. Manjula the welfare officer , gave a brief introduction about the company, its HR functioning and the manufacturing process carried on in the company namely relays, control gear, Capacitors and LV Motors. A Plant visit was also organized.

PM & IR students visited AKAMAI TECHNOLOGIES INC. Mr. Vishal Dsouza and Mr. Rajesh kamath, the HR team along with Mr. Pavan, Head HR Recruitment, briefed us about the company, business of the company, HR functions in general and in specific to Akamai & HR operation of Akamai - with special reference to Recruitment.
Mr. Karthik, the head of platform operation team explained about the working of the company in detail. Mr. Abhishek explained about the whole infrastructure of the company.

HR trainees visited BEML (BHARAT EARTH MOVERS LIMITED). Head HR Mr. Rajendra Hegde briefed about all the HR functions, Labour law implications and Production units. HR Officer Mr. Sayid advised the trainees to have knowledge of recent trends and digitalization to understand the competitive world that as fresher's they will face in the future. The industry visit was very interesting and the technology of the tetra trucks was most impressive.

PM & IR students visited DYNAMATIC TECHNOLOGIES LTD on the 3rd day of Industrial visit. Mr.Dheeraj shetty,Head HR escorted the students to the manufacturing site. Ms. Nagamani, HR team member briefed the HR functions. Students gained knowledge about the production and HR technologies disruptions which the coming generation would probably face.

A visit to HIMALAYA DRUG COMPANY by the PM & IR students. Mr. Raghvendra who is part of the HR team welcomed and started the session by showing a video about products and briefed about the HR practices and welfare schemes at Himalaya. The trainees had an interaction session with the HR director Mr. Umesh also a Roshni Alumni to answer all the doubts connecting business & the role of HR.

The PM & IR students had an industrial visit to BHARAT ELECTRONIC LIMITED. Mrs.Leela Bhatkar, incharge of IR and welfare officer briefly explained to the trainees about the overview of BEL, HR practices and the manufacturing unit. BEL is 74th among top 100 companies world wide in defence. Mr.Kumar explained about the naval systems, the engineering process, business plan and their achievements.

The PM & IR students visited RANG DE, a social enterprise started in the year 2006 with a belief that the peer-to-peer lending model could be leveraged to lower the cost of microcredit. Mrs. Smitha, founder of Rang De introduced the enterprise and the motivation behind starting of the project. Ms. Priya, the HR in charge spoke about the role of HR in a social service sector like thiers. Mr. Ghanasyam, co-founder of Habba introduced their latest project Habba, a website for selling artisans work with an intention of "Honest Pricing for every customer, Honest Income for every Artisan.

A session for the MSW students was taken up by MR. JNANESH an Alumnus of our college. The speaker highlighted the need to create a good self profile on the social media like LinkedIn, facebook and other job portals. This is were the talent seekers find the right talent. The session stressed more on how to prepare for an interview through knowing one's strengths and weaknesses, building a better resume, doing a pre-reading about the company. Concepts like, gratitude, humbleness, aspiration, ethics and compliance were also explored. The speaker made the session more understandable through practical experience sharing and through clarification of doubts.

The PM & IR students had a SESSION WITH MR. RONALD MASCARENHASA, Roshni Alumnus as part of the preparations for the upcoming placements. Sir started his session by sharing current HR challenges and highlighted on functions of HR such as Talent Acquision, Learning & development, Performance Management System (PMS), Training Need Identification, Subject matter expert, Reward and Recognition and CSR. He motivated the students with his professional experiences and different cases he has dealt with. The students understood the importance of questioning the things you learn, for more learning and knowledge.

The students of PM&IR dept had a session with MR. DILEEP CHANDRA,HR GLOBAL SERVICE(OPERATIONS )MANAGER, HP INDIA LTD also a Roshni Alumnus. He shared his life journey as an HR to reach his dream job and the difficulties faced. The students could develop new ideas on Shared services, the work culture and the growth opportunities that an HR will get. He shared how hardwork helps us to reach our dreams,and how well the students should prepare themselves to face the challenges in this digital world.

The HR trainees had a session on PROVIDENT FUND AND MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS ACT, 1952. Mr.Kaushik Kalender, Roshni Alumnus addressed the students sharing the new schemes and how to practically organize PF online and different provisions related to it. The session was quite interesting for the students as new concepts and issues were covered in the session.
