Human Resource Management (HRM) Forum in association with Roshni Alumni Association, Bengaluru organised an online session to converse with HR Leaders to visualise the Career path for the outgoing batch of HR students on 27 April 2022 in the Zoom Platform. The HR leaders Mr.Jnanesh Kumar, Director, Employee success at sale force, Bengaluru and Mr. Naveen Kumar, Head, Human Resource at Licious, Bengaluru are also the alumni of our college.

At the onset the Faculty Asst. Prof Ms.Jinsa Joseph welcomed the eminent resource persons followed by Ms. Catherine Xavier and Mr.Ashwin Mallya President and Secretary of HRM Forum introduced the guests.

Mr. Naveen Kumar speaking with the students stressed that failing to plan is planning to fail. As much as opportunities are there plenty outside equal number of challenges too are to be faced. As the role of HR is evolving one need to be equipped for this challenging yet noble task .Before taking up this task one need to evaluate one’s journey in the field of HR and the milestones as you progress in your journey in taking up varied roles in HR. As professionals we need to prepare to excel in the field. We need to grow in professional maturity in our professional journey. For this we need to reinvent ourselves to update our daily journey.
As students when we finish our academics, we are just beginning our road. Mr. Naveen motivated students highlighting to look at this professional journey as an exciting learning experience, but if we take it as a burden or a job, it will not take us anywhere neither will give us satisfaction. Mr.Naveen reminded the students as in today’s world there is no more it is called HR, but specialists, to be the centre of excellence. He concluded saying that it is better that we sweat in the training field, than bleeding in the battle field. He shared a few practical areas with the student’s .Understanding the organisation, fitting into the culture and values of the organisation is prime importance.

Thereafter Mr.Jnanesh kumar speaking to the students, shared on his work experiences with various organisations. He began speaking about Toyota Company which is known for beginning Industrial Revolution. Adapting to the countries culture in which your company is in, so that you are able to learn the market. Life teaches you a lot. It is the insights that you get, shapes your profession, with the experience. He added further speaking on the organisation- Nestle which is famous for nurturing relationships with the employee. That enabled the organisation to reach success. Yet another area he shared was from his experience with Uni Liver- the best HR practices that was found there. He added saying that knowing employees genuinely spending time with the shop floor, solving problems in a daily basis, you are building credibility, create an impact and earn respect with every conversation that you have with the employees.

Factory is the laboratory where you learn everything about human science. Understanding the employee relations, doing things the way people will understand your credibility or genuineness. Genuine efforts has to be taken to to build the employees career. It is important to take care the employee and keeping them happy so to move on smoothly with the organisational goals. It is challenging to embrace and work with the multicultural context and with different geographical persons. It is all about communication and no one cares who we are, but the way we go about it matters. Work under manager who pushes you to the deep sea. Our learning takes place at different levels: 70 %-by doing a job, 20%-while working with others, mentorship and 10%-mentoring and from relationship. It is important that we work in an efficient and professional manner. Besides these we need to invest on our own development, capability, professional credibility. He highlighted the need for updating oneself constantly to stay in the current context. Mr.Jnanesh did touch upon the Start ups, Starbucks – building brand in India and the understanding SHRM. He concluded saying that how important it is to have career guidance and career mentoring and one need to keep high standards in our professional life.

The HR students were enthused and were grateful by this career conversation which was arranged for them by the Faculty Coordinator Dr.Sebastin KV. The students did clarify their doubts with the resource persons. The Online career Conversation programme ended with the note of thanks by the Faculty Coordinator Dr.Sebastin KV.
