10 students of 2nd year MSc counselling, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, organized a group process session on the topic Interpersonal Communication for the students of BA from the same college. The session was organized on 15th November 2021, for a duration of one hour from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm. A total of 45 students were present for the session. The students were divided to form three groups and each group session was headed by three leaders. Since the students were freshers and had begun their college journey recently, the aim of the session was to help the students get comfortable with their peers, understand how to effectively communicate with one another, and in turn develop meaningful relationships. The session aimed to help students understand the different barriers that were present in communication, how they could overcome these barriers and then communicate effectively. Some of the exercises included answering a self-rating scale to understand one’s own effective communication level; verbal charades where participants had to give verbal vague clues to help other participants identify an object; and the like. The participants were very active throughout the session, actively participating in all the exercises that were held. At the end, the students learnt to effectively communicate, to overcome barriers, and speak confidently. Overall, the session was a great success.
