In fond memory of Late. Dr. B. Ashoka, Former Head of the Department of Criminology and Forensic Science (1979-2016), The Department of Criminology and Forensic Science, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru in collaboration with Trinity Forensic Investigation & Analysis, Mangaluru, has organized a workshop on ‘TECHNIQUES IN CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION’ on 29th July 2019 at Maria Paiva Hall of the College.

Dr. Mahabalesh Shetty, Professor and Head of Department of Forensic Medicine, KSHEMA, Deralakatte Mangaluru was the resource person. Keen observation of scientific evidence found in the crime scene would reveal several clues to identify the culprit and to reconstruct the crime scene effectively he said. He also stated that this would be possible only if the crime scene is protected by barricading to be examined by the forensic experts.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Chief Guest Shri. Kodandaram, Assistant Commissioner of Police, South Division, Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate addressed the gathering on the importance of Crime Scene Investigation and the role of forensic expert in criminal investigation. Dr. Olinda Pereira, Director of the Vishwas Trust and founder Principal of the college was the guest of honour. She shared the experience had working with Dr. B. Ashoka, simple person with great knowledge and had good relationship with police fraternity.

Dr. Uday Kumar K. Professor of Forensic Medicine and Medical Superintendent, Fr. Muller's Medical College, Mangaluru stressed on the need of team work between the doctors of Forensic Medicine, Criminology and Forensic Science experts to investigate a crime scene more effectively. Ms. Juliet C.J. Principal of the college expressed that the criminology department grew well under the guidance of Dr. Ashoka who was also had close contact with police and used to organize several collaborative programmes to educate the public. Mrs. Usha Askoka, Dr. Jenis Mary, Vice-Principal, Prof. Vineetha Rai, controller of examiner, faculty and students of the college, Alumni, staff and students of BSc Forensic Science and Criminology of Srinivas college were present on this occasion.

Dr. Saritha D’souza, Head of the department of Criminology and Forensic Science gave the introductory note on the purpose of organizing this workshop. Mr. Devaseelan S. Managing Director of the Trinity Forensic Investigation and Analysis, Mangaluru, had given a brief note on the service provided by his detective agency. Mr. Balajinarayan, Asst. professor presented a brief report about the college and the extension activities of the department.

Thereafter, there was signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the College and Trinity Forensic Investigation and Analysis. Mr. Amitesh Shetty, Asst. Professor of the department welcomed the gathering, II MSc students Mr. Vajagathali delivered the vote of thanks and Mr. Suhas Ragavendra was the master of ceremony. A total of 200 guests graced the occasion and helped make it a success.
