On the occasion of International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, the Centre for Extension Services (CES) and Forensis Forum of the Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science (CFS), School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru, in association with Family Counseling Centre, Institute of Social Service, Mangaluru had organized a session on ‘Women Rights and Law & Order’ for the women of the local community of Family Service Agency, Mangaluru on 3rd November 2022 at 2.30pm in the Family Counselling Centre, Valencia, Mangaluru.

Dr. Saritha D’Souza, Head of the Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science gave an introductory note about the theme stating the importance of the women rights and the Criminal Laws related to women in India. She spoke about the current issues faced by women in the family, workplace, and in the society. Hence, awareness on the rights of women is a must for all women living in the community so that they can raise voice against the exploitation. She has also requested them to spread the information gained through the session to others in the community.












Further, more information has been provided by Ms Likhitha V K, second year student of Forensic Psychology and Criminal Justice specialization. She discussed about the various women rights, legal procedures followed in Indian courts, Laws related to women in India. She said that women have the power but they do not have the opportunity to use them due to different reasons. She gave an awareness on women’s right to live, education, equality, fight against exploitation and violence such as dowry, domestic violence, sexual harassment, indecent representation of women and so on. In case of such issues faced by women in the society must bring it to the notice of institutions working for the welfare of the women, women police stations, different centers and cells setup for the support of women who will take care of the further procedures leading towards the issues.

In continuation, Ms. Vibha M. Second year student of Questioned Document and Impression Evidences specialization addressed the women about the Human Trafficking of Women and Children for the purpose of forced prostitution, beggary, bonded Labor, child marriage, illegal trafficking to other country, removal of human organs so on. She made them aware of the issues through relevant case analysis, punishments for the acts under the law and approaching women officers pertaining to the issues. Further, there was an interaction session where the women expressed the problems and issues that they had witnessed. They also expressed satisfaction over the session as they were able to be aware of the various rights of women, India Criminal Law, Institutions and organization working for the welfare of the women.

Ms. Shwethal, Counselor and organizer of the event, Family Counselling Center, Institute of Social Services, Mangaluru welcomed the gathering and introduced the guest speaker. Mr. Mallesh, first year student of Post Graduate Department of Social Work delivered the vote of thanks. Ms. Kavya, second year student of MSc Criminology and Forensic Science cum student coordinator of extension activities, 7 students of the collaborative department, 3 field work students of MSW, faculties and staff of the organizing institutions were present on this occasion. Altogether, around 40 people were part of this interaction session.
