As a part of Post Promotional Course for Police Sub-Inspectors of Western Range, Karnataka, the Third day training session was held on Friday8th October 2021 at 11.30am in the College Seminar hall on the topic ‘Role of Police Sub-Inspectors towards Janasnehi Policing, Police Attitude towards Complainant, Women, Children, Senior Citizens, Youth’. Dr. Saritha D’Souza, Asst. Professor and Head, Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru was the resource person. She spoke about the advantages of Janasnehi policing, factors responsible for negative portrayal of police in the society, ways to improve police-public relationships, effectiveness of public-friendly policing. She stressed upon the police approach towards the needs of child, complainants, youth, elderly and women issues. A role play relevant to the issues with youngsters was demonstrated during the session in order to assess the specific role played by the police officers in their police station.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Further, youth were asked to express their satisfaction towards the police while dealing with their issues and the way of handling the situation. Similarly, police officials were also asked to put forth their experiences and challenges faced while handling cases related to youth. There was an interactive session based on the field experiences and the difficult situations handled by the police in various police stations. The session began with a demonstration on effective listening and counselling skills needed for the police while dealing with different kinds of people. At the end, as a part of skill development activity, police officials were given a demo on emotional equilibrium.

Ms. Shoba D’Souza, Asst. Professor, Undergraduate Department of Social Work of the college and Member, Child Welfare Committee, Dakshina Kannada District, Mr. Roshan D’Souza, Assistant Professor of Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science, two accompanied staff of the police departmentand six student representatives of MSc Criminology and Forensic Science department were present on this occasion.Altogether, 41 Police Sub-Inspectors of Western Range Police, Karnataka representing Five districts actively interacted during the session.
