As a part of Post Promotional Course for Police Sub-Inspectors of Western Range, Karnataka, the Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science had taken initiative to organize Four days training sessions for Police Sub-Inspectors of Western Range Police, Karnataka in collaboration with Undergraduate Department of Social Work and Post Graduate Department of Counselling, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru in the College campus.

The first day training session was held on Tuesday, 5th October 2021 at 11.30 am in the College Seminar hall on the topic ‘Role of Police Sub-Inspectors in women and child related issues, Gender Sensitization, Human Trafficking, and role of NGO’s in handling these problems. Ms. Shoba D’Souza, Asst. Professor, Undergraduate Department of Social Work of the college and Member of Child welfare Committee, D. K District, Mangaluru was the resource person. She spoke about the factors influencing gender differences, reasons for the missing children, causes for the trafficking of persons, interventions of police and NGO’s towards the issues related to the women and children. There was an interactive session based on the field experiences and the challenges faced by the police while handling the cases. Several cases were discussed pertaining to the women and child related matters.As a part of the session skill development activities were given for the police officials pertaining to the theme.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dr. Juliet C.J. Principal of the college warmly welcomed the Police Sub-Inspectors of Western Range and expressed that the theme of the training session is very much relevant to the current situation. Having several years of field experience in handling the issues related to women and children, it would help to interchange the thoughts and the challenges encountered she said. She expressed her gratitude to Sri. Sonawane Rishikesh Bhagawan, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Dakshina Kannada District for providing the opportunity to interact with police officials. She was thankful to Sri. Dinakar Shetty, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Dakshina Kannada District for willingly sending the trainees to have their sessions in the college campus.

Dr. Saritha D’Souza, Director, Centre for Extension Services and Head of the Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science of the college, Mr. Roshan D’Souza, Assistant Professor of the Department and Mrs. Jennifer Carlo, Asst. Professor, Post Graduate Department of Counselling were present on this occasion. Altogether, 41 Police Sub-Inspectors of Western Range Police, Karnataka actively participated in the training and seven students of the hosting college contributed towards the smooth conduction of training session.
