Workshop on Psycho-Social Support in Disaster Management
Two days workshop on Psycho Social Support in Disaster Management was held at Roshni Nilaya on 8th and 9th August 2016 for the 1st MSW students. Dr. Jayakumar, the assistant professor at NIMHANS Bangalore who was the former senior consultant, National Disaster management Authority, New Delhi conducted the workshop. It was organised by Dr. Rameela Shekhar, Dean, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya. Dr. Meena Monteiro, HOD, MSW, welcomed the guest speaker and the gathering.
The workshop included various group activities to enable the students to get familiarize with the basics in Disaster Management. Dr. Jayakumar who represented the central government in several disaster mitigation projects shared his rich experience. The insignificant role played by the staff and students of Roshni Nilaya in 2010 Air Crash at Mangalore was highlighted to show the role of Roshni Nilaya in Disaster Management in the coastal area of Karnataka. The sessions also emphasized the need of safety measures to be adopted while being in front line of disaster affected areas.
