Forum for Sustainable Development, Post graduate Department of Social Work (MSW) in association with Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of School of Social Work organised a session on ‘Aspirations V/S reality- A Dialogue’ on 9th May, 2023 at 10:30 am. Mr. Abdul Latheef, alumni of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya (2002-2004 Batch) and currently working as a Portfolio Manager at Catalyst Management Services, Bengaluru was the resource person. After the prayer and welcome by the convener of the forum, Mr. Elwis Lopez, Dr. Juliet C. J, the faculty explained the topic “Aspirations V/S Reality”. To inaugurate the Dialogue, she posed a question to the resource person Mr. Latheef about his aspirations after completing MSW and their fulfilment so far. Mr. Latheef answered the question and thus inaugurated the session. Ms. Eirene Durom introduced the resource person.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mr. Latheef’s expertise and experience span various thematic areas of social development, including research, program and impact monitoring and evaluation, program implementation, MIS, human resource management, training and documentation. Mr. Latheef explained the aspirations of Social Work Vs. the reality and emphasised the need to be updated and to use scientific approach in our interventions to face the current realities in the society. He proposed that a social work professional should be designated as social scientist rather than social worker and we need to build credibility of our expertise in a specialised field. The students were inspired with his work experience, contributions to the community to resolve the problems that haunt the society, life of commitment, expertise and hard work as well as the case studies presented on uplifting of the poorer and marginalized groups. Mr. Latheef introduced various organizations and their characteristics to the students and also mentioned the important traits to become a developmental practitioner. After the session, students posed various questions to Mr. Latheef regarding their concerns related to career and the outside world, and Mr. Latheef clarified and gave the right and appropriate answers to the students. Ms. Arunima M.P delivered the vote of thanks and Ms. Anuradha Shetty, Faculty Coordinator Forum of Sustainable Development and Dr. Juliet C.J, Asst. Professor, P.G Department of Social Work presented a memento to the resource person as a token of gratitude. The inspiring and motivating session concluded at 1 p.m. which gave a lot of inputs about the reality checks in career development. A total of 35 students participated in the session.
