Post Graduate DivisionSpecialization: Medical and Psychiatric Social work (MPSW) Adapting to and coping with a range of diverse conditions can be challenging for people in a variety of situations. Every human being must prepare for and embrace the reality of his or her situation. Health practitioners would never be able to intervene and offer holistic treatment to all of the clients they encounter. This necessitates advanced education. As a result, medical and psychological societal issues have arisen. As a result, in both clinical and non-clinical settings, medical and psychiatric social workers play a key role in multidisciplinary teams. Through psychosocial evaluations, field studies, interviewing, psychosocial interventions, follow-up treatment, and resource mobilization, MPSW practitioners play a specific and diverse role in the lives of clients and their families. These social workers often aid in the understanding of psychological, social, economic, and cultural beliefs and contexts, providing for more careful assessment and care. Medical and psychiatric social work students study clinical evaluation of mental illness based on their field experience, child and adolescent mental health, adult mental health issues, case work, therapeutic therapy, testing, and more through their academic studies. They are prepared to work in a variety of environments throughout their careers, including government and non-profit agencies, hospitals, Family Psychiatric Units, community mental health centres, neurological departments, recovery centres, women and child welfare settings, non-profit organizations, suicide helplines, and research. During their studies, they complete a field practicum that prepares them to work in all of the above environments. They are given special training to deal with the situation in a more proactive manner, as per evolving requirements such as COVID 19.
Specialization: Community Development (CD) Community Development is a specialization that is still as important and successful today as it was in the past. It is a specialty that prepares students to work with people, especially to address social issues and promote mutual well-being. Person and community rights are championed by community growth activists in the pursuit of social justice. Community mobilization and social work were responses to the many forces that created inequality in our society. Students are taught to consider various group contexts such as urban, rural, tribal societies, etc., as well as power and structural dynamics. They are encouraged to study issues that result from these settings, to provide a forum for participants to instill the spirit, experience, and skills needed to work in collectives for the development of society in general. Since its inception in 1967, community development students have been active in a variety of social change programmes, which have evolved into social movements. To mention a few examples, headload vegetable vendors/farmers movement, organic farming awareness building and movement, watershed management, zero waste management, de-addiction movements, environmental protection awareness, and movements. These movements are still going strong, and students are being prepared to work on new social issues.
Specialization: Personnel Management & Industrial Relations (PM&IR) Workers in various settings are plagued with a multitude of issues that sometimes interfere with their effectiveness and overall productivity of the organization. Social workers' abilities and experience can be used to boost employee satisfaction and organizational effectiveness. Students who have received training in PM&IR are assisting organizations in creating healthy and prosperous communities. Our PM&IR students are put in professionally run business organizations to complete their concurrent fieldwork, in which they are exposed to all functional areas as well as day-to-day problems, during their academic studies. Another benefit is the deep alumni network and connections with alumni. All of this helps to prepare our students for careers in HR and organizational leadership. After post-graduation, our PM&IR-trained students are working in both conventional as well as emerging functional areas of human resource management. Workplace equality, work-life balance, diversity and inclusion, workplace culture, sexual harassment, data breaches, recruiting and onboarding, team building, and corporate social responsibility are a few of the areas they work in.
“A person’s real need, a most terrible need, is for someone to listen…not as a ‘patient’ but as a human soul. To listen well is to respond to a great human yearning."- Carl Rogers Mental health issues can severely curtail an individual’s ability to lead a fulfilling life. They can cloud relationships, family lives, and careers. Counselling involves helping people to make necessary changes in ways of thinking, feelings, and behaviours. Criminology is the social study of crime, including who commits crimes, why they commit them, their consequences, and how to avoid them. It relates to how people behave, communicate, and organize themselves in society. It does, however, integrate study and principles from other disciplines such as philosophy, anthropology, biology, and psychology. Forensic science or Criminalistics is the application of science to criminal and civil laws, primarily on the criminal side during criminal investigations, as governed by legal principles of admissible proof and criminal procedure. This Criminology and Forensic Science programme (Postgraduate) is unique in its design due to the convergence of these scientific fields of study. In today's world, they are inextricably related. As a multi-dimensional phenomenon, delinquency is on the rise in society at an alarming rate. Several new technological advances have also been misappropriated by criminals. Several modern innovations have been misused too by some for their criminal enterprise. Security has become a victim in today's world, with crimes like human rights violations, cyber atrocities, financial frauds, terrorism, and white- collar crime becoming the norm. Concurrently, traditional crime is on the rise at an unprecedented pace. To counteract such anti-social actions and gain the upper hand, society must actively search out newer approaches. Increased academic awareness and the start of related research will go a long way toward mitigating all forms of crime. As a result, criminologists and forensic experts must be one step ahead of criminals to combat such crimes in society. In this sense, academic training in the use of digital technologies in crime prevention and detection will be greatly advantageous to law enforcement agencies and society as a whole. As a result, visionary Dr. B Ashoka took the initiative to advance the cause of society's need, and the college began offering M.Sc. in Criminology and Forensic Science in the academic year 2011-2012. The programme's goal is to train students to gain academic and research expertise in the areas of criminology, security methods, forensic science, police science, crime scene management, financial institution investigations, victimology, criminal justice system, cyber forensics, and forensic queries.
