Eligibility for Admission:
Candidates who have passed any Bachelor Degree examination for Mangalore University of any other considered as equivalent thereto are eligible for the programme provided they have secured a minimum of 45% (40 for SC/ST/Category-1) marks in optional. Selection of candidates shall be on merit-cum-reservation on the basis of 50:50 weight-age for marks in the entrance and qualifying examinations.
Duration of the programme:
The normal duration of the Master Degree Programme leading to M.S.W. degree shall be FOUR semesters (two academic years) of 16 weeks each. Each semester shall consist of SIXTEEN weeks of theoretical study and Social Work Practicum excluding end-semester theory examination and evaluation of social work practicum. Each semester shall provide for at least 90 teaching days and 225 Social Work Practicum hours. The ODD SEMESTER shall normally be from mid-July to mid-November and the EVEN SEMESTER shall normally be from the first-week of January to the first-week of May.
Criteria for Student Selection
The selection procedure has been designed to select candidates not only with the required marks but also with an aptitude for work among the marginalised groups in rural and urban societies who are the focus of social work. The following procedures shall be followed in admitting students for the MSW programme.
he student shall send her/his application in the prescribed form available at the college office.
- The students shall opt for a particular field of specialisation before appearing for the selection tests to be conducted by the college.
- In the first stage, the selection tests would cover a written test and an aptitude test.
- The short-listed candidates shall be further screened by conducting group discussion and panel interview.
- Weightage shall be given to different components in the selection process such as Aggregate marks secured, Written & Aptitude Test, Group Discussion and Panel Interview
Reservation criteria applicable at the time of admission shall be followed.
A limited number of admissions is offered to Foreign Nationals and Indians living abroad, either on a full-time basis, or on Student Exchange Programmes as per the corresponding MoU approved by the Competent Authority, and/or in accordance with the Government or any other rules then prevailing and applicable to such admissions

Social Work Practicum
Social Work practicum prepares students for professional Social Work practice in various settings such as Communities, Hospitals, Clinics, Counselling centers, Non Government Organisations and the Government departments concerned with welfare and development (social welfare, rural development, urban development, women and child development and local self governance). It prepares students to work with individuals, groups and communities by performing roles of counsellors, facilitators and activists. It also seeks to equip them with knowledge and experience to undertake advocacy and networking to promote change in social policy. The Personnel Management and Industrial Relations program with its basic grounding in social work aims at preparing candidates to perform the human relations functions within the corporate and civil society organisations with a more humane face.
