DEPARTMENT OF KANNADA
Kannada is the state language of Karnataka and studying Kannada as the second language for four semesters in Degree programme will cater to the needs of communicative and converse skill in their own language. In 1978 Kannada optional was introduced for the degree programme. Initially Kannada, English, Psychology was the unique combination later changed to Kannada, Sociology and Rural Development for the benefit of Kannada medium students. On completion of the degree they can do B.Ed course for which Kannada is a pre- requisite.
Kannada Department also motivates non Kannadiga’s from B.S.W. to learn spoken Kannada for their field work purpose. Kannada Department has started Department Library for their students. This library acts as Book Bank rendering text books for needy students.
Kannada Department arranges guest lectures on different topics. Kannada Department helps the Kannada cultural Department of Govt. of Karnataka to conduct Administrative Kannada for Govt. Officers and clerical staff by making available the services of a resource person and providing reference books
Kannada Department arranges Inter collegiate folk variety competition through Kannada Sangha and also conducts Folk exhibition during the competitions. Kannada Department arranges a study visit to K.T.C. archives at Balmatta.
Kannada Department regularly sends its students to Ninasam Prathishtanas Semshitha Programme to explore new trends in literature.
Kannada Department conducted the inter-collegiate drama competition with the collaboration of Karnataka Nataka Academy to commemorate Golden Jubilee event on 15th and 16th, August. 2009.
